Sugar spent his early days being around fighters Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko and others, whom were trained by his uncle.
However, he did not come straight into the boxing world.
Stint Beofre Becoming a Full-time Trainer
Sugar Hill Steward had served as a police officer in Detroit for 12 long years. His primary job as a policeman was to work with youth.
As he comes from a boxing family, Sugar Hill used the very sport to help kids become disciplined and stay away from trouble. This even helped some of the kids to see boxing as their future.
Teaming up with Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury replaced Ben Davison with Sugar Hill Steward as his trainer ahead of the Deontay Wilder II fight on February 22nd, 2020.
Fury knew Suger well as he lived in Emanuel Steward’s house for some time early in his professional career. This made Suger and Brit form a bond. As Fury’s 12-round fight against Otto Wallin in September 2019 did not go well, he teamed up with Sugar after getting a recommendation from ex-boxer Andy Lee.
Fury was known as a slick boxer and not a heavy puncher back then. The fight of Fury against Wilder in December 2018 had a slit decision draw.
Before the rematch, everybody was predicting Fury via points and Wilder scoring a knockout. Fury and Suger predicted a win via KO, and their combination made it happen. Fury won the battle via seventh-round TKO.
This made Sugar Hill carry the Kronk legacy ahead. In October 2022’s trilogy, Deontay Wilder lost again, and this time, facing a brutal 11th-round KO.
Fury, in April 2023, beat Dillian Whyte via a sixth-round TKO.
However, he then had three hard fights. He beat MMA debutant Francis Ngannou in a professional boxing match in October 2023, but did not solidify his mark.
This was not at all expected by any fight fan. And in 2024, Fury lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk. However, they have not split after these setbacks.
