Billy Joe Saunders feels he can still make a comeback and become a three-weight world champion. The controversial British fighter now wants to win a title in the light heavyweight division.
However, he has to work a lot to get into shape. Saunders attended the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn fight last month, looking to carry a lot of fat.
Billy Joe Saunders last fought on 8 May 2021 against Canelo Alvarez for the unified super-middleweight titles. Saunders looked sharp in the first seven rounds, before getting his eye hit to the core in the seventh.
As a result, the 35-year-old fighter faced his first defeat of his professional career. Saunders, who is a two-weight world champion, has won 30 times in 31 contests.
Many boxing fans felt that he should have come back faster after the Canelo defeat and aimed to force the Mexican great to have a rematch with him.
However, he has said many times to come back into the boxing ring again. But there is no sign of his return.
Saunders told The Ring: “My biggest goal would be to become a three-weight world champion, but let’s just get back fighting and then see where we are.”
Saunders turned professional in February 2025. However, he has not taken care of his fitness well. Otherwise, several boxing fans felt he could have gone down as Britain’s greatest ever boxer.
