Vasiliy Lomachenko announced his retirement from professional boxing on Thursday (5 June 2025).
The two-time Olympic gold medalist fought 21 times in his pro career, winning 18 and losing three times.
The 37-year-old last fought George Kambosos Jr. at RAC Arena, Perth, Australia, winning the fight in the 11 round (TKO).
Lomachenko held the world title in three weight divisions. He only lost to Orlando Salido, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney. But fight experts feel that his losses against Salido and Haney were pure robberies.
Lomachenko was famous for his fast movement. Being a two-time Olympic gold medal winner and a three-weight world champion is a rare combination.
In June 2014, he beat Gary Russell Jr. in his third pro fight to win the vacant WBO featherweight title.
Ade Oladipo, who is a famous boxing broadcaster, said on his YouTube channel: “His record was 18-3, he was a freeweight world champion, and he was one of the best fighters I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Lomachenko is a well-respected boxer. Back in 2019, he was being seen as the best thing since sliced bread.
