An Overview

YouTube vs TikTok Boxing event came under the exhibition category, with top social media stars battling it out on June 12, 2021.

Headlined by Austin McBroom (YouTuber) and Bryce Hall (TikToker), the PPV got the attention of so many viewers all over the world.

However, YouTubers outdid TikTokers 6-1 to steal the show. It is the first and only such mega event, where seven YouTubers went head-to-head with seven TikTokers.

Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, was packed with a younger audience. It was the boxing debut of most fighters on the card, including the main event.

Fight Background

Early in March 2021, McBroom and Bryce Hall had a war of words on X (then known as Twitter).

Hence, on March 18, LiveXLive announced the social media card – YouTuber vs TikToker.

On May 18, they had a famous press conference, which ended with McBroom and Hall damaging the stage,  watched by millions of people all over the world.

Weigh-in

Giving a classical WWE-style storyline, social media stars Fousey and Deji had a backstage fight before the weigh-in started.

The weigh-in took place on 11 June 2021 in Miami.

  • Main Event: Austin McBroom: 172 lb (78 kg) vs Bryce Hall: 165.4 lb (75 kg).
  • C-Main Event: AnEsonGib: 179 lb (81 kg) vs Tayler Holder: 175 lb (79 kg).

Other than Vinnie Hacker, for TikTokers, it was a flop show against YouTubers.

Six of seven fights were won by YouTubers.

From top to bottom, all the fights were scheduled for five rounds. Only two contests went on full five rounds, with four wins coming by TKOs and one by KO.

The main event saw Austin McBroom having a brutal edge over Bryce Hall, who took a lot of beating and lost the fight in the third round.

However, the co-main showdown went on to full five rounds. AnEsonGib looked brilliant, beating Tayler Holder by unanimous decision.

Broadcast Details

  • LiveXLive broadcast: YouTube vs TikTok Boxing pay-per-view.
  • It did 135,000 PPV buys, which were not able to cover the overall cost.
  • The first two fights of the card, Ryan Johnston vs. Cale Saurage and Landon McBroom vs Ben Azelart, were shown free of charge on YouTube.

Controversial Fight Card

1 Flop Show

The mega social media card was not able to cover the cost overall, as 135,000 PPV buys were able to generate around USD 10 million. But the cost of overall show was USD 20 million.

All the fighters waited for two months to get the money for their hard work. However, by August 2021, the update came about the show flopping. As a result, fighters did not get their payment on time.

The first lawsuit was between Austin McBroom and promoter LivexLive. The second lawsuit was filed by Tayler Holder and Nate Wyatt against McBroom.

Both of the cases got stalled outside the court in February 2022.

2 Tanner Fox and Ryland Storms Fight

Tanner Fox vs Ryland Storms was another fight on the show. Storms said that Fox withdrew from the fight due to fear and weight difference. However, Storms then explained that he was not allowed by the commission to fight because the weight difference between the two fighters was huge.

3 AnEsonGib vs Tayler Holder Scorecard Blunder

At first, the fight between AnEsonGib vs Tayler Holder, the co-main event, was announced as a draw. The scorecard was 49–46, 49-46 and 50–46 in favour of AnEsonGib, who was shocked with the draw and called it a robbery.

Even Holder felt that Gib should have won the fight. However, two days later (June 14), ISKA director Tom Sconzo made it clear that scorecards were in favour of AnEsonGib. Hence, he was awarded the victory.
