Spencer Fearon, who is a well-known boxing media personality, feels fans will see Anthony Joshua facing Deontay Wilder before the Brit going head-to-head against Tyson Fury.
Despite in the last 10 years, fight fans have seen many mega contests in the heavyweight division.
The wish to see Joshua facing Wilder first and later Fury, at the peak of their powers, is just something that can only happen in video games now.
From 2016 to 2020, Joshua vs Wilder was the biggest heavyweight fight.
Joshua had WBA, IBF and WBO belts, and Wilder was the WBC champion. This unification would have made one of them the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era.
However, in 2019, Andy Ruiz outdid Joshua in the summer before winning the belts back later in the year (rematch).
But the charm of this fight went away when Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder on the 22 Feb 2020.
In fact, in Dec 2018, many did feel that Tyson beat Wilder when they had a draw in the first meet-up.
After the Wilder vs Fury II, the COVID-19 virus shut the world for almost a year (2020).
There was a rematch clause between Wilder and Fury for the third fight, however, the Gypsy King wanted to fight Wilder in late 2020.
Fury was then told that the rematch period was over, and he could go forward for the fight against Joshua.
However, Wilder won the case and the trilogy took place in Oct 2021. Again Fury beat the American pro boxer. But Joshua lost his belt to Oleksandr Usyk in Sep 2021.
A year later, Joshua lost the rematch too against the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. This made Fury vs Usyk the biggest fight.
Both fighters then took a lot of time to make this clash happen before meeting twice in 2024, where Uysk beat Fury in both meetings and finished his unbeaten record.
So in the end, Uysk became the king of this era. But in the meantime, Anthony Joshua lost to Daniel Dubois in Sep 2024.
This has made Fury vs Joshua, not the same fight as what it could have been in 2021.
After losing to Fury twice, Wilder lost his magical touch. The Bronze Bombe then lost to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang too.
This made the magic of Wilder vs Joshua not as charming as it was in 2017, 18 or 19.
However, boxing pundit Spencer Fearon thinks Fury can still come back from retirement. But before Joshua faces Fury in the all-British showdown, the fight against Wilder is possible.
He told Boxing Social on YouTube: “We see Deontay Wilder Vs. Anthony Joshua before Tyson Fury.”
As three of these heavyweight boxers are not at the top of their game, the charm of these two fights has become not that attractive. But these are still two mega fights for the fight fans worldwide.
