Lennox Lewis’ parents parted ways when he was very young. As a result, he did not have. He was raised by his mother, Violet Lewis, in London and then in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. 

Lennox’s mother had worked as a singer. She battled through hard times to make Lennox’s dream of becoming a boxer come true. 

It was the key reason behind Lennox representing Canada as an amateur boxer and winning a gold medal for them at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. It was something several fight fans did not like about Lennox when he started to represent Britain as a professional boxer.

Lennox and his mother moved to Kitchener, Ontario, back in 1977, to make their living better. Back then, Lennox was around 12 years old. At the age of 15, he joined the Kitchener Police Boys Club (boxing club) and grew his skills to the core.

  • Arnie Boehm was his first boxing trainer, and Adrian Teodorescu became his trainer at the time of representing the Canadian National Team.

Lennox Lewis is a retired professional boxer who ruled the heavyweight division from the early 1990s to 2003. 

  • In 1987, Lennox’s journey as a pro boxer started. He signed with British promoter Frank Maloney and started to represent Britain. 
  • On 27 June 1989, he made his debut as a pro boxer and beat Al Malcolm by 2nd round knockout. 
  • On 31 October 1990, he defeated Jean-Maurice Chanet to become the European heavyweight champion. 
  • A fight later, Lennox won the British heavyweight title after beating Gary Mason by 7th-round TKO. 
  • In April 1992, Lennox added the Commonwealth heavyweight title to his collection and outdid Derek Williams in just three rounds (TKO). 
  • On 8 May 19923, Tony Tucker and Lennox Lewis battled for the WBC heavyweight title. He won the WBC heavyweight title in a hard 12-round battle. 
  • On 1 Oct 1993, Frank Bruno and Lennox went head-to-head in London for the WBC title. Lennox won the fight by the 7th round TKO. 
  • He defended his title against Phil Jackson before facing a shock defeat to Oliver McCall. It was a shocking second-round TKO loss. 
  • He then had four fights before meeting Oliver McCall again, and this time for the vacant WBC heavyweight title in February 1997. Lennox won the fight and became the two-time world heavyweight champion. 
  • In 1999, Lennox had two fights with Evander Holyfield. The first fight ended as a draw, and Lennox came victorious in the second. Both battles went to 12 rounds each. He also won the WBA, IBF and became the undisputed champion.  
  • In 2001, Hasim Rahman gave Lennox his second pro-career defeat. But Lennox won the rematch in the same year and became the three-time world champion. 
  • In 2002, he beat Mike Tyson. But back then, Mike Tyson was way behind his peak. 
  • His last fight was against Vitali Klitschko on 21 July 2004. Klitschko faced a 7th-round TKO defeat, and Lennox retired with an impressive record of 41 wins, two losses and one draw. 
  • He is the founder of the Lennox Lewis League of Champions (NGO). 

Pepe Correa was his first pro-boxing career trainer. In 1990, he joined hands with George Francis but parted ways in 1992. Three years later, until 2004, Lennox stayed with Emanuel Steward and had his best time under his Kronk Style.

  • In 1999, Lewis faced a controversial draw against Evander Holyfield. It was called, back then, a huge mistake by the judges. Lewis then had to face Holyfield again in 1999, where he won the match unanimously. 
  • In 1992 and 93, Riddick Bowe did not fight Lewis for the WBC title. Hence, even now, the fight fans say that Riddick ducked Lewis. 
  • In 2003, Vitali Klitschko was winning the fight until the doctor stopped it in the 7th round. Many fight fans felt that Vitali should have given more time. 
  • In 2001, he won the lawsuit against Hasim Rahman after he declined to give Lewis a mandatory rematch. 
  • In 2018 and 2019, Lennox Lewis and Anthony Joshua did not have the best words to say about each other. Back then, Anthony’s team felt that  Lennox had an agenda against Anthony Joshua because he did not make him the manager after turning professional.
