Filip Hrgovic has made a strong comeback after losing to Daniel Dubois on 1 June 2024. The Croatian professional heavyweight boxer outsmarted Joe Joyce. The main event took place at the fight at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena on Saturday.
It was a 10-round main event that Joyce lost on his home soil.
The 39-year-old Brit, once seen as the biggest boogeyman of the heavyweight division, has now lost four of his last five pro boxing fights.
In 20 head-to-head battles against different boxers, Joyce has seen defeat four times and won 16.
Hrgovic, in contrast, won his 18th professional fight. His career-only defeat came against the current IBF heavyweight champion Dubois.
In 2023, Zhilei Zhang beat Joyce twice. He then came back and beat Kash Ali in March 2024.
In July last year, Derek Chisora outdid Joyce. And now the latest defeat has come against Hrgovic.
Not to forget that in Nov 2020, Joyce gave Daniel Dubois his pro career’s first-ever defeat. In Sep 2022, he beat another high-profile boxer Joseph Parker.
However, losing to Zhang twice took his ability to take the punch as per many boxing pundits.
This has possibly made his overall capacity slower to take the hit and move forward.
