Caleb Plant, the former IBF super middleweight champion, feels that fearless puncher Edgar Berlanga is staying away from fighting him. In a recent interview given to Boxing Social on YouTube, Caleb said: “He doesn’t wanna fight me.”
Berlanga is a free agent and is no longer a part of Matchroom Boxing Promotions. In 25 professional fights, Plant has won 23 (14 KOs) and lost just twice to Canelo Alvarez first in Nov 2021 and then to David Benavidez in March 2025.
Berlanga’s only professional loss came last year to Canelo Alvarez on September 14. He has won 18 of his 23 fights via knockout, losing just once.
The 27-year-old boxer then made a comeback against Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz, getting a first-round KO win on Mar 15, 2025. In fact, this was his last fight under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom banner.
Both Plant and Berlanga are known as one of the top super middleweight boxers. However, Plant sees Berlanga ducking him and looking for easy options.
There were talks in the last few months of Plant vs Berlanga possibly taking place in 2025, but nothing official has come public yet.
Plant’s last fight was against Trevor McCumby on Sep 14, 2024, winning the contest via TKO in the ninth round.
