Fabio Wardley’s trainer, Ben Davison, told IFL TV that his fighter’s aim was always to look for the knockout against Justis Huni, who is a naturally gifted boxer, last Saturday.
Wardley won the contest in the 10th round, thanks to a brutal knockout at Portman Road, Ipswich (June 7, 2025), and won the vacant WBA interim heavyweight title.
Fabio Wardley did look decent against Huni, but the need for a knockout seemed always crucial during the fight. It was Fabio’s 19th pro fight win, and 18th with the help of a KO (a draw).
The victory has put Fabio in a decent position to look for a future fight for the world heavyweight title.
It was the first time that the 30-year-old fought at Portman Road, which was his dream since turning professional in April 2017.
Davison told: “I didn’t expect to bank rounds and just knew that Fabio had to try and capitalise on a moment. Being honest, I knew he had to win by stoppage, and eventually he found it.”
Since Davison has taken over the coaching role of Wardley, the Brit has seen a great rise overall. He is now one of the top 10 heavyweight boxers in the world.
