Just like Tyson, John was also a heavyweight fighter. His professional boxing career lasted for 13 fights, winning eight, losing four and one draw. He once fought for a title, losing the vacant Central Area heavyweight title to Neil Malpass in 1989. 

His last fight was on 10 June 1995, losing to Steve Garber at G-Mex Centre, Manchester, England. 

Jail Controversy 

John Fury gouged the eyes of his friend Oathie Sykes, with whom he had a long tussle. The horrible incident took place during a car auction event in 2010. The fight started with a beer of a bottle turned so brutal 12 years later, as Sykes lost one eye. 

Hence, in 2011, he was given the punishment of going behind bars for 11 years. However, John was released in February 2015. He did serve around four years in jail. But he does not like to talk much about this incident.

  • John Fury gets criticised for overdoing things during fight promotion. Like in 2023, during his son Tommy Fury’s face-off with KSI. He did hit the glass barrier too many times for no reason. 
  • During the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight week in May 2024, he hit one of the team members of Usyk. John head-butted him, but blood came from his head. 
  • John has faced criticism for blaming trainers when Tyson does not perform well.
