Promoter Oscar De La Hoya did not like how Devin Haney fought against Jose Ramirez in a 12-round unanimous decision victory at Times Square in New York last Friday.
Haney came back after a controversial fight against Ryan Garcia in April 2024, where he faced defeat first, but then Garcia’s positive drug test led the result to a no-decision.
Haney beat a credible boxer in Ramirez, but it was a boring fight where neither pugilist tried to do anything extra to win.
As Haney won the fight, the fight fans felt he should have done better. As Garcia lost to Rolando Romero, it has made the impact of the rematch worse for Haney.
Despite he is one of the best fighters in the world, the overall style of play might not help him sell the events.
Oscar De La Hoya, who is the promoter of Ramirez and Garcia, felt that Devin should have done better. He even criticised his former promotional star Canelo Alvarez for not doing that well against William Scull on May 3.
