Devin Haney, who will face Jose Ramirez in May 2025, feels villain image is something that can take his profile to the next level.

The 26-year-old American professional boxer last fought against Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) on April 20, 2024. Firstly, Garcia did win the fight. But later, he tested doping positive and the result was changed to a no-contest.

Hence, Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) is still unbeaten in the professional ranks. However, there are a host of fight fans who feel that Haney lost to boxing great Vasiliy Lomachenko on May 20, 2023. But the judges made Haney win the fight against Lomachenko via unanimous decision.

Haney’s next fight is against experienced Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs).

Haney told to The Ring: “I was always the villain, but I was also a good guy. But I always wanted to be a villain because it’s easy being the villain and it pays being the villain. I’m OK with being the villain. I was secretly the bad guy but was acting like the good guy. Now I can come out of the costume and just be me.”

Haney thinks that the villain image did help Floyd Mayweather Jr. to become a mega name in boxing. It is something similar he would like to replicate.
He added: “That’s when Floyd became the big star, when he became the villain.”
